Juice Cleanse Recap

So the last juice has been drank.

empty

And I'm overall super glad that I did the cleanse!

As I mentioned in my previous post, It was a combo of good timing, a decent price, and Leslie's cleanse that made me make the commitment.

I purchased the kit through babo market, a local health food store curated by Sava Lelcaj, who also owns and awesome restaurant in Ann Arbor. It came with the following 6 drinks:

Wake up Elixer: green tea, agave, cayenne
i was scared of this one at first, but it ended up being a great day starter. the cayenne just added its signature spicy-ness without a lot of flavor. I might keep these up!
Breakfast Smoothie: apple, celery, chia, spinach, avocado
LOVED this one. super yummy -- the apple shined, and i love anything with chia.
Power Shot: wheatgrass, ginger, probiotic, agave
this one was a struggle. I actually haven't even taken it from day 3 yet (whoops!). wheatgrass is just not very appetizing and the ginger and agave dont really help to get rid of the dirt/sludge taste/texture.
Lunch: carrot, sweet potato, beet, tumeric, coconut water
this baby was featured on my instagram and previous post. It's just so gorgeous in color! and also delicious. sweet and refreshing.
Happy Hour: OJ, green bell pepper, kale, chard, parsley, tomato, ginger
the ginger really shined in this one, but i LOVE that it included so many greens! also an enjoyable one.
Dinner: Strawberry, banana, almond butter, almond milk, hemp protein
This was a smoothie in a bottle - quite similar to the smoothies I make at home. So i enjoyed it. sweet and filling -- a great dinner.

Positives: generally feeling well days 2 and 3, controlled hunger, commitment to a plan which meant I wasn't snacking, losing bloat (I really noticed this at spin on tuesday - no tummy bulge when spinning = yay!), finding out what kind of weight loss I need, and I think my sugar cravings have subsided a bit. YAY! was pleasantly surprised i had normal energy to run, spin, and yoga as planned.

Negatives: feeling crappy on day 1, price point is a little high for a poor law student, a little bit of scatterbrained-ness, but nothing unreasonable.

Total weight lost: 4 pounds! probably water weight but i'll take it.

With our law school formal coming up (space prom), and heavier half marathon training, I think this was a great idea for me, and I def. feel refreshed and energized.

YAY JUICE CLEANSE!

2013 intentions

I've tried to cement some new year intentions (yes, like setting an intention for a yoga practice) for the past week, and it hasn't been the easiest thing in the world. But since I still have over a week until back to the law school grind, I think I still have some time.

What i do know is that I'd like 2013 to be a year of getting healthy again. 1L kicked my butt pretty hard - I didn't consistently eat healthy or run, and I think that was to my detriment.

So new gameplan for 2013.

source

I will be signing up for a half marathon very shortly (for April 27! Plenty of time to train for a PR), and I'm seriously toying with the idea of signing up for the Chicago Marathon this year - I'll be up to 8 mile long runs at that point, so I think I'll have a good idea of whether that's something I want to do.

So fitness intentions:

1) PR the half
2) run consistently
3) keep up spinning class, as cross
4) foam roll
5) master an impressive strength training project - headstand, pull-up, something like that

and more general health and wellbeing intentions:

1) continue eating whole foods
2) snack healthy, less often, and smarter
3) break up with sugar

With regard to these health and wellbeing goals, I actually have the good fortune of a physical this week with bloodwork - so I can make sure all those pesky levels are where they need to be and adjust accordingly if necessary.

So far, the running stuff has been going well.

I've been consistently meeting my plan (minus the spinning as I'm not near my go-to spin studio), and it's been great.

So nice to just get out there and run.

Plus i feel like a badass running in the cold.

these things have been lifesavers:

toe warmers
Having my toes be toasty when i run makes running in the cold infinitely better.

Running a lot has me a little worried about old injuries (a legit 3rd metatarsal fracture from running in 2011), but I think if I run smart and cross train, I'll be good to go.

So here's to 2013, big goals, big accomplishments.

Let's do this.

Evaluating Goals

Hello August 15, 2011.

Hello mid-august.

Hello goal evaluation time.

1. develop impeccable habits.

this has actually been going super well. after august 3rd, I have worn my retainer every night, as well as clarisonic+moisturizer (well minus a few nights away from home where i resorted to yes to cucumber face wipes, but i think this is an acceptable substitute). the only thing i haven't been great about is face masks, and cleaning my clarisonic like i should. also making sure to soak my retainer in baking soda (super gross i know. i am full of TMI on this blog) things to work on!

stats: retainer: 12/14 nights
clarisonic+moisturizer: 26/28 opportunities

2. run smart

this has been totally accomplished thus far, but i do have increasing mileage and runs/week to worry about, and need to keep in mind that i am not yet a speed demon and CANNOT push myself too hard.

goals for the last two weeks: keep runs around 9-10 min mile pace.
try to stick to the plan, but be flexible if necessary
x-train, x-train, x-train

3. read more

finished the 8th pretty little liars book "Wanted" (which really shouldn't even count, but I don't care), and have been pushing through "the girl who kicked the hornet's nest" ever since. I hate getting to the end of series - i always want to drag it out (see Pushing Daisies, Friday Night Lights, and Gilmore Girls. All of which I have yet to watch the series finales of, despite them being some of my favorite shows). Not sure if it counts, but I'm on disc 10 of 13 of omnivore's dilemma, which i am loving. Michael Pollan, you rock. Also working on Kara Goucher's Running For Women, which I'm also enjoying. expect a "things learned from Ms. Goucher" list soon :)

4. cook more

this has not happened at all. so now i need to get 7 meals and 3 baked goods in. crap.

super easy recipe suggestions please?

5. make a budget

haven't touched this yet. sort of problematic. must do asap.

are you a goal-setter? if so, what are your goals?

Tuesday, August 2, 2011

Somehow it’s august already. No clue how this happened, but what it means two things:

1. I can run today! Run meaning walk half a mile walk half a mile and pray that my foot doesn’t give me any trouble, but running! Life is good.
2. In 36 days I’ll be starting law school.

So with these big impending changes, I’m making some august goals.

Goal 1: Develop impeccable habits.

This was one of my new years resolutions, and while I’m doing much better than a year ago, I’m still not where I’d like to be. So here it goes – in tangibles.

Face regimen (clarisonic+moisturizer) 90% of the time (56/62 opportunities)
Retainer 80% of nights (25/31 nights)
Face mask once a week (4/4 weeks)

Goal 2: Run smart

This is a vow to not push myself too hard too fast and re-break my foot.
I have half marathon #2 on the calendar, but there is no guarantee that I will actually run it. And that’s how Im going to approach it.
No running faster than a 9:30-10:00 minute mile for the first 2 weeks.
Keep it around nine for the last two weeks.
There will be a more in depth training plan to come, but this is the big important stuff now.

Goal 3: Read 5 books

Including two on the law school’s recommended reading list.

Goal 4: cook more
turkey tacos from saturday night! so good!
7 new meals and 3 new baked goods are on the agenda.

Goal 5: Create a budget
This is the first time I'm taking out a whole slew of student loans, and I've kind of been living the high life lately with no rent and a paycheck every two weeks with little expenses. (see marc jacobs watch and designer jeans shopping). Make a budget for the school year and stick to it!

Do you have any goals for august?
